1. Self-employment
If you’re self-employed, we’ll need your:
Income records: we can use either invoices or a list of your transactions recorded in a simple spreadsheet
Expenses: either receipts or a spreadsheet works
Download our invoice and expenses spreadsheet to keep you on track and organised throughout the year. If you were both employed and self-employed during the tax year, then you’ll also need to submit a P60 form.
2. Construction Industry Scheme
For your CIS tax return, you would need to provide:
CIS statements or payslips: any documents showing how much you earned and how much tax your contractor has paid
Receipts for expenses related to your work, such as transportation costs and equipment costs
You can also check to see that you’re claiming all of the relevant expenses to maximise your CIS rebate.
3. Property income
If you receive income through property, you’ll need to provide our accredited accountants with the following:
A summary of any rental income and expenses recorded in a spreadsheet
Receipts from any expenditure related directly to the property rental
You can read more about what the allowable property expenses here.
4. Capital gains
If you’re making a profit from selling your assets (we’re definitely jealous), then we’ll need to know some key information. This includes:
When you bought the asset
How much you bought the asset for
When you sold the asset
How much you sold the asset for
5. Employed (PAYE)
If you’re employed and you pay your taxes through PAYE via your employer, we’ll still need this information when filing your Self Assessment tax return. Specifically, we’ll need:
Your P60 end of year tax certificate or P45 details of employee leaving
Your P11D expenses and benefits (only needed if you have private health insurance)
Don’t forget to provide your accountant with all the information available regarding all your streams of income.
6. Donations, pension contributions, and SEIS/EIS investments
With all of these, it’s best that you keep clear and organised records of every transaction. Collect all the important documents and keep them together (and make a copy just in case). Keep all your receipts for tax record purposes.
For any donations you’ve made, we’d need:
The amount
The date
The charity of donation in either document form or a spreadsheet
When it comes to pension contributions, we need any documents or information that mentions them. A spreadsheet works too!
Submitting information on your SEIS or EIS investments isn’t as complicated as you may think. We do everything, as long as you provide us with:
Your SEIS3 or EIS3 certificates
Or your share certificates
Although this may seem like a lot, we’re on hand to help throughout the entire process. Use our spreadsheets to track and stay on top of all your finances.
